Solidarity message of ITUC-AFRICA to COSATU Congress BY KWASI ADU-AMANKWAH, General Secretary

23 November 2015

We bring you greetings from Dakar, Senegal, where the 3rd Congress of ITUC-Africa is taking place, and for which reason we are not able to be with you physically.

The current situation where the domination of capital, particularly foreign capital, leads to the continuous affluence of a very tiny minority and leaves the majority of our people in hardship and misery is patently unjust and unsustainable.

The National Democratic Revolution represents for us in Africa the process of wrestling the control of our political economy from the stranglehold of foreign imperial interests and their local lackeys in business and politics and creating the conditions for agrarian and industrial transformation through the effective mobilization of the human, material and mineral wealth of our continent.

For it to be truly national, the NDR requires the broad coalition of a range of social classes and interests groups; and to be truly democratic, it must depend on and reinforce the empowerment of the popular classes, especially the working class, through bringing them to the centre of decision making and making them benefit from the fruits of their labour.
