The greed and obscene conceit of the Aurora directors is revolting
14 December 2015
The Congress of South African Trade Unions condemns the arrogant and headstrong Aurora directors and the Bhana family for spending thousands in court appeals , while the workers they cheated out of their livelihoods are left destitute and facing another bleak Christmas. They have proven themselves to be remorseless and they should be held accountable and made to face the consequences of their actions.
This coming Thursday, the North Gauteng High court will hand over a final judgement on the Bhana Investments and their role in looting of the Aurora the mines. It is deplorable, morally obscene and a travesty of justice that these looters arrogantly think that they have a social licence to prey on the poor workers and use our courts to defend their immoderate accumulation of riches through dishonest means.
The federation salutes the Gift of the Givers and some of the local businesses for their valiant efforts to help the abandoned Aurora workers in Orkney. The livelihoods of the workers have been destroyed because of greed, selfishness and moral deprivation of the Aurora directors.
The Deputy General Secretary of the COSATU, Cde Solly Phetoe will join the leadership of the National Union of Mineworkers, in helping the charitable Gift of the Givers organisation and the local business community to fundraise and deliver some much needed help to the mineworkers.
Our government needs to also account ,on how is it possible that these unctuous merchants, some of them with political associations have been allowed to get away with such rapaciousness. We salute our affiliate the National Union of Mineworkers for remaining resolute in demanding justice for these workers.
