COSATU congratulates its affiliate NEHAWU for a successful 11th National Congress

The Congress of South African Trade Unions congratulates its affiliate the National Education Health and Allied Workers Union {NEHAWU} for a successful 11th National Congress, which ended today 29th June 2017. We were inspired by the frankness and quality of the debates and the exercise of democracy and discipline by the delegates at the congress. It is reassuring to see leaders confidently handing the organisation back to its real owners, the workers, for them to asses and plot the way forward in a transparent democratic process.

COSATU hopes and trusts that the workers come out of this congress ready to implement their resolutions to defend their interests and pursue their goals and dreams, including those of the working class in general.

We want NEHAWU to come out of this congress and make sure that its leaders at all levels move out of boardrooms and go to the ground to lead workplace struggles. We want to see the national union leading the recruitment offensive for itself and working with other unions based on providing quality service to members and organizing the unorganized and those workers who are in vulnerable sectors.

Long Live NEHAWU, Long Live!
