COSATU Free State is saddened by the murder of two SAPS Officers in Koffiefontein

COSATU Free State has learned with shock the murder of two police officers, whilst on duty in Koffiefontein in the early hours of Thursday morning. We have been informed that the two SAPS Officers, who were manning the Community Service Centre in the Police station, were murdered on their workstations right inside the Koffiefontein Police Station.

The motive for the attack does not seem to be clear at this stage, since as per the reports only one forearm was missing and all their belongings were still with them, when their bodies were recovered.

We condemn with the strongest possible terms such an attack and denounce this barbaric act. We call on our community members to come forward and provide the information, which would lead to the arrest and successful prosecution of the culprits.

We did previously raise the matter of the safety of police officers, whilst on duty with the SAPS management in the province; following the incident whereby police officers were attacked whilst on duty at a satellite police station in Bloemfontein.

COSATU Free State is disturbed by the compromise of occupational health and safety of police officers whilst on duty and calls on the management to ensure that the safety of the protectors of our nation is prioritized.
