POPCRU to host a national campaign against Gender Based Violence in Khayelitsha, Cape Town

22 November 2017

The Police and Prisons Civil Rights Union (POPCRU) will be hosting a national campaign against gender based violence under the theme "POPCRU enhancing community relations to end gender based violence" , this as part of the 16 Days of activism that we continue to engage in on a yearly basis.

Violence against women and children in our country has become an unprecedented problem which cuts across all cultures and every level of society, and we are of the view that every person in society should take a stand against such acts that represent a grave violation of human dignity and other forms of human rights enshrined in our constitution.

The Western Cape in particular has seen a spate of child murders in recent months, and the rising statistics of reported abuses are of great concern.

The campaign will be addressed by representatives from the SAPS, ex-Convicts, the LGBTI, the Department of Justice and the Department of Correctional Services.

It takes place as follows;

Date: 29 November 2017
Time: 09h00
Venue: Salvation Church, 34801 Hlanga Crescent, Makhaza, Khayelitsha, Cape Town

We aim to raise awareness on the effects of gender based violence on the youth and communities in general.

Media is hereby invited.

Issued by POPCRU on 22/11/2017
