NUM distances itself from the City Press newspaper article or any other related news articles
12 March 2018
The National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) distances itself from the City Press newspaper article dated 11 March 2018 under Business and Tenders Section dated 11 March 2018 and specifically on page 3 bearing the heading, "INSIDE THE GUPTA BUSINESS RESCUE" written by Dewald Van Rensburg.
In the article, it is reported that one Ruann Kruger, an attorney, alleges to be representing the NUM 546 members at Optimum Coal Mine and other creditors which are not mentioned by name, to have the Business Rescue Practitioners removed through a court application.
"The NUM Highveld Region vehemently denies having instructed anyone and specifically Ruann Kruger to execute any mandate on behalf of its members. We confirm that we do not know Mr. Kruger nor have we spoken to him.We confirm that there is no court proceeding instituted by NUM in so far as the contents of the article suggest. You could detect as you read the article that Mr. Kruger is not even aware that our members are back at work and that automatically shows that Mr. Kruger is clueless about this matter," said Nelson Ratshoshi, NUM Highveld Regional Chairperson.
We, therefore, wish to distance ourselves from the submissions by Mr. Kruger and appointment as our Attorney in this matter. The NUM legal department is dealing with this matter.
