Rugby crisis imposed on South Africa as pro white team is selected for the big game against the All Blacks
COSATU is concerned about the lack of coherence from the SA rugby coach. The Coach has now reverted to a mainly white team for the match against the All Blacks on Saturday. The record shows that a mainly white team is neither representative of all South Africans, neither is their performance good. The mixed rugby team won the All Blacks game while the mainly white team lost to Japan, which shows that we need the talent and skills of all South Africans to do our best.
The coach has repeatedly shown his bias towards the white players in his selection choices. He has also left the most talented players on the bench in the games where he had a chance to play them. So Peppier and Willemse are not given the opportunities as the most talented new players in the Springbok squad. This coach has made erratic choices which are reflected by a mediocre player like Willie Le Roux now having his 50th game. There is no coherent plan of blooding in the new talent in preparation for the coming World Cup, with the most talented black players who are playing in positions that white players have dominated in the past, left to warm the bench.
Cosatu has the difficult position of supporting the All Blacks on Saturday to defeat the racism that is still present in the Springbok team. This will hopefully show Rassie that successful teams are those that promote all the citizens in the country, who should play a new style of rugby. The selection choices and playing style of the old Boere mafia must be stopped, if the team is to represent all South Africans and be more successful.
The federation cannot support the present selection choices and believes that these selection choices will lead to a big victory for the all Blacks. Racism in South African Rugby must be defeated. We need to put to an end to the preferential white player selection choices, in place of talented form black players.
