NUMSA supports FAWU strike action!

29 December 2009

The National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (Numsa) fully supports the nation-wide strike actions by workers at SAB Amalgamated Beverages Industries Coke Division, one of our country’s leading beverage suppliers.

The arrogance displayed by SAB ABI management is reflective of their intentions to maintain and perpetuate the old apartheid Bantu income inequalities in the midst of massive poverty, deepening inequalities and rising cost of living amongst the workers and the poor.

We are conscious of the fact that SAB ABI has made our country as a global haven for its imperialist accumulation and exploitation for the benefit of the British White monopoly capital. Its revenue generated through the hard labour and sweet of our country’s workers is invested in the London Stock Exchange and used to maintain and sustain the British capitalism and imperialist interests.

We call on South Africans and workers in particular who are consuming ABI beverages in the midst of the festive mood and sunny weather to actively participate in solidarity with the striking workers to stop buying ABI beverages between 13h00 – 17h00 every day in a course to force the intransigent ABI oligarchy to adhere to workers demands. The SAB ABI bosses are having a blissful festive season whilst the workers are chasing crams with mice!

This call is in sync with the ANC’s electoral promises of creating decent and the Freedom Charter’s resolve for equal pay for equal work. Fighting together we can achieve more for our workers!
