COSATU NW continue its fight against the most expensive toll gate in the country
10 December 2012
The Congress of South African Trade Unions in the North West will be continuing with its campaign against the most expensive toll gate in the country - the Swartruggens Plaza.
This time COSATU is going to camp at the toll gate on the 14 December 2012 until the Minister of Transport or his office comes down to give a positive feedback on the memorandums we have handed to them in the past months.
COSATU has been disappointed on several times by the departmentís failure to convene the meeting of the task team; hence the federation has resolved to stage a sit in at the toll gate until the department comes down.
COSATU would once again call on the members of the community; the business community, the farming communities, the motorists around the area and all the road users to support the campaign as it affect all of them.
COSATU would like to condemn any violence that happens in the neighbouring villages in the name of COSATU.
COSATU would welcome any support from the villages but that support should not be violent and should not intend to collect toll fees illegally.
The COSATU action will be in a form of a motorcade starting from Swartruggens Municipality building on the December 2012 at 11h00 moving to the toll gate where we will demand our feedback and stage a roadblock until our demand are responded too.
We are also calling the motorists or road users who are not supporting our campaign not use that N4 on the same day cause we will not be accepting any request to open the road until we complete our program, our positions is simple reduce the toll gate or suspend the payment until the so called ministerís task team conclude its work which we are not sure that it will help or resolve the matter.
We are on record that we are meeting the task team today 14h00 at the DGís office in Pretoria after we have been undermined by the same office postponing meetings more than six times.
We are calling all our members to bring their cars in numbers. Farmers must bring their tractors to stage a sit-in at that toll gate. Whoever benefited from that toll gate must come and remove it forever. We have being fighting for the reducing of this toll gate for sometimes now and no one what to listen to the workers.
This campaign will continue as part of e tolling system in SA, in particular in Gauteng where as the federation we are against that program of stealing from the people.
