COSATU NW commemorates the life of Nelson Mandela

9 December 2013

The Congress of South African Trade Unions in the North West province will take part in a week-long memorial program throughout the province.

COSATU calls on all its members and the members of the community to go all out to give the former statesman the greatest send-off that he deserves.

The memorial program, led by the ANC, started on Saturday and COSATUs want to urge all the people of the province to unite and be part of this program.

Today, 9th December, there will be sub-regional prayer services in all the sub-regions in the province and we urge members to contact their municipalities and the ANC constituency offices in their localities for the details of the prayer services. The main activity will be in Ikageng stadium in Tlokwe starting from 14h00 and we urge all the members in Tlokwe to attend these services.

There will be live screening of the national memorial service in the Klerksdorp auditorium on Tuesday 10th December 2013 for those who will not be able to attend the memorial service in Johannesburg and in the other regions and municipalities.

On Wednesday 11th December 2013 we call on all the people of Tlokwe to participate in the by elections in all the affected six wards and when they vote they must remember Mandela and vote correctly. At the same time we call on all the activist of COSATU and the alliance to be on the ground to mobilise the community of Tlokwe to vote for the ANC in the coming elections as we continue with respecting our president of our democracy.

The provincial memorial service, jointly with our government, will be held on Thursday 12th December 2013 at the James Mahlatsi Oppenheim stadium in Orkney starting from 11h00 and we also urge the members of COSATU to attend in great numbers.
The government and the ANC condolence books are available at the COSATU provincial office at 75 Commissioner Street in Klerksdorp for all members of the community and the members of COSATU to come and write their message of condolence and the book will be available until Saturday the 14 December 2013.

COSATU continues to celebrate the life of Comrade Nelson Mandela and indeed he has left us a great legacy and his life was a life lived to the fullest.

COSATU continues to send its message of condolence to the Mandela family; indeed their loss is a loss to the whole nation and the world at large.

We are repeating what we said last week - that President Mandela was the president of the poor and working class, who had the interest of making sure that all workers in the country were respected regardless of their colour. He fought against racism and oppression and exploitation.

We call on all those companies and farmers who have been practicing, and continue with, their exploitation and racism even after 1994 reconciliation led by Mandela government to stop those criminal activities and talk about building the dignity of our county inspired by the dignity of president Mandela.

Once more our members must join all memorial services to respect what Mandela did to us as workers of this province.
