Going back to the expensive toll gate at Swartruggens
11 December 2014
The Congress of South African Trade Unions, with the support of the alliance, is going back to the toll gate as planned. We want to be on record that the delaying tactics by Kgetleng municipal officials of not convening the Section Four meeting is not our problem. We submitted the application on time, on the 4th December 2014, we made a follow up with municipality and they requested us to resubmit.
Now we have today been told that our application was late and that the office of the municipal manager was locked and therefore they could not access the application on time. That is not our problem; this matter must be resolved by the municipal manager and her office.
The Gatherings Act says the municipality must convene the Section Four meeting to hear both sides of the application, not only of the SAPS and Traffic Department which represent the interests of Sanral and Bakwena.
What the municipality is doing by declining our application on the basis of what they are told by someone is wrong. Convene a Section Four meeting!
We are continuing with our action as per the application; we request the SAPS and traffic officers to be there, as we will be picketing and demonstrating from 16h00 to the next day, 13th of December 2014 at the main expensive toll gate.
We will only suspend or call off our action if the minister intervenes seriously on this matter, responds to all our demand and meets the poor motorists half way. The toll gate protest is from 12th December to the 13th December 2104 in the early hours of that day.
